However, if a phone is your only option, it can make uploading SVG files a bit more challenging. Especially since Etsy DOES NOT let you download the files from the mobile app. As of 2019 they do not offer the option. For real. Don’t try.
So how do I get to the files then? Where do I store the files on my phone? How do I unzip them? Aghhhh helppppp!
Do not fret! There are some amazing options that smart-tech-people have created for this exact problem. I will explain the step-by-step process for both iPhone and Android users.
For iPhone Users:
1. Access your files on Etsy.com from your phone’s web browser. For iPhone users, I recommend safari. Go to Etsy.com from your web browser, NOT the app.
2. Then, login and go to your Purchases and Review tab, and navigate to the file you want to download. CURVE all their attempts to get you to use their site from your app. Again, you cannot access your downloads from their app.
3. From here, you can tap the Download Files link which will take you to a new page.
4. Hit the download link. Your files will automatically download to your “Files” app.
5. Then, click thebeautiful blue download arrow in the top right hand corner.
6. Tap the small bar that pops up and your iPhone will automatically redirect you to your iCloud Drive in your “Files” app where the .zip is automatically downloaded. If it doesn’t redirect you, just open your Files app and go into your Downloads folder.
7. Tap on your zip folder. It will automatically extract the zip folder and all of the files will be accessible through a new folder. The new folder will have the same title as the zip folder, but you will know the difference between the folders because the zip folder will end in .zip and will not allow you to access the individual files.
8. Once this is done, move the files and rearrange them in a designated SVG Files Folder within your Files app if you haven’t already.
I like to have a designated file folder for all my SVG files so I can stay organized and see everything I have in one place.
I also recommend downloading the Google Drive app and transferring files into that space. This is helpful if you are running low on iCloud storage because you literally have 7,000+ pictures of your dog saved on your phone.
*In Dumbledore voice*: Points to Android Users for memory cards!! *Cheers from the crowd erupt.*
Speaking of Android Users, here is how you can download your files:
1. Access your files on Etsy.com from your phone’s web browser. For Android users, I recommend Chrome. Go to Etsy.com from your web browser, NOT the app.
2. Then login and go to your Purchases and Review tab. CURVE all their attempts to get you to use their site from your app. Again, you cannot access your downloads from their app.
3. Tap the download link by touching and holding or tapping the download icon.
4. Your phone will automatically download the files into your “Files” or “My Files” app, depending on which one you have. However, most Android users find that they prefer using the free“Files by Google” app, which uses your Google Drive cloud storage to save and manage files. Because I don’t have a lot of experience using Androids, (like any actually, sorry), I found this article helpful in understanding how to manage your downloads.
5. In the Files by Google app, tap Browse, then navigate to your digital download.
6. Tap the .zip file and on the next screen, select Extract. It will automatically extract the zip folder and all of the files will be accessible through a new folder. The new folder will have the same title as the zip folder, but you will know the difference between the folders because the zip folder will end in .zip and will not allow you to access the individual files.
7. Once this is done, move the files and rearrange them in a designated SVG Files Folder within your Files App if you haven’t already.
Uploading the Files on Cricut Design Space
For both iPhone and Android users, when you open Cricut Design Space app, hit the upload button and then from there, tap “Browse Files” and it will automatically take you to your Files folder where you saved your SVGs!

Our craft patterns are sold on Etsy as PDF files with full written and visual instructions for cutting and assembling. Additionally, we offer the same patterns as an SVG file format. The PDF printable pattern is used for cutting out the pieces by hand with a pair of scissors, whereas, the SVG file is intended for use with a Cricut cutting machine. It is the ideal file format for using with Design Space.

There are two types of images: one is called VECTOR (these are files saved with .svg / .dxf extensions) and RASTER (these are files saved with .jpeg / .gif / .png / .bmp extensions).
In a nutshell, SVG is a file format for displaying vector graphics on the web that stands for Scalable Vector Graphics file. The pattern file was originally created using Adobe Illustrator then exported as an SVG file. The Cricut cutting machine reads the mathematical path (in the way of lines and points) in the SVG file to cut out the pattern with precision.
Why are SVG files so great when used within Design Space?
- Scalability – As its name implies, an SVG allows you to scale the pattern size without losing the resolution or quality. Whereas raster (or basic) files are designed using pixels and cannot be scaled up without losing quality.
- Editable – Although the craft pattern is made up of multiple pattern pieces, once uploaded into Design Space, the individual pattern pieces can be moved around, hidden or duplicated giving the user many creative options.
- Precision – Using the Cricut cutting machine to cut out the SVG pattern file guarantees precise cutting not easily achieved by hand cutting. Additionally, SVG files are instantly ready to cut after uploading, not requiring any clean up like an JPEG or PNG file needs.
- Speed – Using the cutting machine will save you loads of time giving you more free time to create and complete projects.
- File Size – SVG files are typically smaller than raster files using up less storage space and making the uploading process quicker.
